“Acibadem Sistina” operates the first privately owned Nuclear Medicine Department in country. The department’s design and equipment is carried out according to European standards for protection and safety in open source ionizing radiation. The Department consists of Nuclear Medicine Unit, Radionuclide Therapy Unit and Unit for diagnostics and treatment of thyroid gland diseases.
SPECT Gamma Camera
The Nuclear Medicine Unit has at its disposal a SPECT system based on compact multipurpose gamma camera with two detectors that allow for a wide range of nuclear medical diagnostic examinations. The sensitivity of the Gamma camera and post-processing protocols provide diagnostic quality images while reducing patients’ exposure to radiation. The Gamma camera is integrated in the communication system between the imaging modalities and the data archiving, thereby enabling hybrid SPECT/CT, SPECT/MRI fusion of images.
The Radiopharmaceutical Laboratory is equipped with the last generation digester (Lamin Air) for handling dangerous substances. It has a built-in dosage calibrator for measuring radioactivity, an elevator for automatic manipulation with the generator of radioactive materials and a protected space for temporary disposal of radioactive contaminated waste occurring during the process of pharmaceutical preparations labelling. Blood elements labelling with the application of radiopharmaceuticals is performed in a separate workstation.
The Unit is equipped with single bed suite for treating patients with radioactive isotopes specifically designed to enable maximum protection to patients, staff and the surrounding environment. Radioiodine therapy is administered to patients with respective indications as well as palliative therapy for painful bone metastases.
The Unit provides high-quality clinical examinations, ultrasonographic examination of the thyroid and parathyroid glands with the application of the latest ultrasound devices, laboratory tests of thyroid hormones, thyroid scintigraphy and ultrasound-guided puncture biopsy. Therewith, rapid diagnosis in patients with thyroid diseases is established, followed by timely administration of appropriate therapy.
