Standard urological interventions

The Department of Urology offers surgical treatment for all standard urological problems including radical interventions for malignant diseases of bladder, prostate, kidneys and adrenal gland; retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy in testicular cancer treatment; treatment of numerous pediatric congenital abnormalities (undescended testicles, reflux disease); in addition to performing emergency surgical procedures. Endourological treatments

Endourological interventions are performed by using optical instruments, entering the natural openings of the human body with no prior incision. Using modern technology and ultra-thin instruments, calculosis is treated with minimal invasive technique. This method is also used in the treatment of prostate enlargement, bladder cancer, laser lithotripsy for upper urinary tract calculi.

Laparoscopic interventions

Laparoscopic surgical interventions follow by a short hospital stay and a quick recovery are performed. The most common laparoscopic surgeries are: varicocelectomy, removal of renal cysts, removal of kidney affected by cancer and removal of the adrenal gland. Treatment with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)

ESWL – Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy is a revolutionary treatment for urinary lithiasis. ESWL is performed in a specially designed room equipped with the most advanced anesthesiology device that enables a painless treatment. The specificity of this method is that it generates relatively weak waves passing through the body, but gain considerable force in the focus, i.e. stone, resulting in its fragmentation. Three types of power generators – hydraulic-electric, electromagnetic and piezoelectric are used for ESWL. The best results in terms of defragmentation and elimination of stones are achieved by electro-hydraulic lithotripsy. The advantage of this outpatient procedure is that it does not require hospitalization, and the patient can leave the hospital in an hour after the treatment. ESWL success rate is 90% for stones of 1.5cm and 75% for stones larger than 1.5cm.
