For the first time in Macedonia and the region, two minimally invasive procedures were performed at Acıbadem Sistina Hospital for the treatment of persistent and/or recurrent narrowing - strictures of the urethra.

“This procedure is performed without an incision, endoscopically and under fluoroscopic control, with specially designed balloons whose wall is coated with the drug paclitaxel - a cytostatic with local action, the release of which into the wall of the urethra prevents re-formation of connective tissue and narrowing of the tube. Patients are discharged from the hospital on the same day, wearing a thin urinary catheter for only three days. The drug remains effective for the crucial period of one month, having no systemic effects on the body,” explains Aleksandar Mickovski, MD, specialist in urology.
