Ass. Prof. Milenko Kostov, MD, PhD had a vocational visit at the Department of Neurosurgery at the Medical University of Graz deemed to be one of the leading reference centres in Europe performing neurosurgical surgeries, including robotic surgery.
In the evening hours of his fortnightly visit, Dr. Kostov actively participated in performing numerous complex neurosurgical procedures under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Stefan Wolfsberger, Head of Department and one of the most prominent European neurosurgeons with over 30 years of experience.
"My stay in Graz was an excellent opportunity to deepen my knowledge and experience. I had the opportunity to attend robotic-assisted biopsies, work on skull base tumours, as well as to participate in performing surgery on an awake patient – an extremely precise and fascinating method in which the patient communicates with the team during the procedure," says Dr. Kostov.
The focus particularly revolved around the use of the neuronavigation system, a tool that enables high precision during the procedures. As Dr. Kostov pointed out, this experience considerably boosted his knowledge about the advanced functionalities of the system used at Acibadem Sistina Hospital as well.
