The cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that substitutes the function of a damaged cochlea. Unlike the hearing aids that increase the volume, the cochlear implant substitutes the cochlea function and processes signals to the brain. In some cases it is possible to implant both ears since hearing in both ears improves the function of sound localization while hearing in a noisy environment is  improved.
