An expert training on the topic "Care of Neurosurgical Patients" was held at the premises of Acibadem Sistina Hospital, intended for nurses/technicians working in hospital settings. The training aimed to improve the professional preparedness, clinical judgment and practical skills of the nursing staff in the treatment and care of patients with neurosurgical diagnoses. Mentor of the training was Ass. Prof. Milenko Kostov, MD, PhD, specialist in neurosurgery, while Androniki Bibovska, nurse for education and training, and Vlatko Ilieski, lead physiotherapist at the hospital were the presenters. The purpose of such specialized lectures is continuing the development of nurses and sharing innovations in certain branches of medicine.
The content covered during the training was as follows:
• Fundamentals of neurosurgery and the most common diagnoses
• Perioperative patient preparation
• Postoperative monitoring of neurological status
• Assessment of pain and analgesia in neurosurgical patients
• Wound management, drainage and monitoring
• Prevention of complications
• Standards, protocols and documentation according to hospital and JCI standards.
The training was interactive and comprised of presentations, practical examples from clinical practice and exchange of experiences between participants. Special emphasis was put on the importance of rapid response and continuous monitoring, as well as team communication between nursing staff, neurosurgeons and the anaesthesia team. The trainees received educational materials and recommendations for further improvement, and the training is expected to increase the quality of nursing care, patient safety and efficiency in clinical practice
