By acquiring the most advanced navigation system, Acibadem Sistina has provided the patients with a safe, precise and minimally invasive neurosurgery, complying with the highest world standards.

The system enables more advanced cranial procedures, including: brain biopsies, tumor removal, visualization of nerve pathways, catheterizations, as well as precise positioning for deep brain stimulation (DBS)”, emphasizes Assoc. Prof. Milenko Kostov, MD, PhD, neurosurgeon at Acibadem Sistina Hospital.
 
The StealthStation S8 system of the Medtronic American corporation, as one of the world's top five medical technology companies, represents one of the most advanced neuro-navigation models. The version available at Acibadem Sistina has premium configuration, equipped with two mobile, fully compatible stations and an intelligent intuitive operating system that enables 2D and 3D visualization. Its integration into the operating rooms will provide the neurosurgical team the possibility of real-time monitoring of the instruments’ position, visualizing the brain or vertebral column anatomy in all dimensions and performing surgical procedures with maximum precision and minimal risk to vital structures.
 “This system will help us determine the location of the tumor with millimeter precision, plan a safe surgical corridor that bypasses functional zones and blood vessels before the procedure even begins. It is essential for the treatment”, adds Assoc. Prof. Kostov, MD, PhD.
 
 Possibilities offered by this system are not limited to cranial procedures only. By the means of additional equipment, minimally invasive spinal procedures are planned to be performed in the following phase – including minimal surgical trauma implant insertion that will significantly reduce the postoperative recuperation.
 
"The intent is to introduce functional neurosurgery as well, a branch that deals with implantation of neurostimulators in patients with Parkinson's disease, dystonias and other neurological movement-related disorders. This way Acibadem Sistina will be among the few centers in the region that apply this highly specialized therapy", says Assoc. Prof. Kostov, MD, PhD.
