For the first time in a single day, the Clinical Hospital “Acibadem Sistina” successfully performed two surgical procedures for the implantation of cochlear implants, or "artificial ears"—sophisticated electronic devices—for a patient with congenital deafness and another with profound hearing loss. Dr. Makedonka Garvanlieva-Nikolova, specialist in otorhinolaryngology, who carried out both procedures, explained that by implanting these cochlear devices, patients regain the ability to hear again. Children, in particular, can learn to speak and go on to live normal, unhindered lives.
