World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August)
As an active promoter and supporter of breastfeeding, Acibadem Sistina Hospital participated in the press conference on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week (1 -7 August).
Dr. Dushko Fidanovski who is head of the Pediatrics Department at Acibadem Sistina Hospital highlighted the efforts of the Hospital in the promotion and support of breast milk.
“Each employee is highly dedicated to protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding. The Department of Neonatology team passes an integrated education system, in order to know how to convey the benefits and importance of breast milk in the simplest way. Our commitment is officially recognized and we are proud to say that we have the “Baby friendly Hospital” UNICEF Certificate. This year we initiated the concept Acibadem Sistina BABY which offers a number of benefits for pregnant women, mothers and newborns. Within that concept we organize free lectures on pregnant women every Wednesday, where our neonatologists educate pregnant women about the benefits of breast milk and provide useful tips for proper and successful breastfeeding. We have a website as well which is www.acibademsistinababy.mk where among other subjects we have prepared articles on breastfeeding as well.” explained Dr. Fidanovski.
Educational lectures and workshops
A series of lectures and interactive workshops will be held in Skopje City Mall during the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, not only regarding health and medical aspects of breastfeeding but beyond including the psychological and emotional aspects and the extension of the mother-baby dyad, nutritionist advice and workshops with experienced nurses to master the techniques and all the problems that can occur during breastfeeding. Dr. Simonida Spasevska who is a pediatrician-neonatologist at Acibadem Sistina Hospital, on Friday (August 7) at 18:00 will give a lecture on “Benefits of breast milk for the health of the mother and the baby” and the nurses from the Department of Neonatology at Acibadem Sistina Hospital will hold a workshop the same day at 19:30 with exercises for mastering the breastfeeding techniques.

The event that will mark World Breastfeeding Week in the Republic of Macedonia is organized by the NGO “Matrona” and all relevant health institutions and organizations which aim at promoting and supporting breastfeeding.
