HIGHLY SPECIALIZED COMPLEX LAPAROSCOPIC PROCEDURE PERFORMED AT ACIBADEM SISTINA HOSPITAL – LARGE PANCREATIC TUMOR REMOVED IN A 44-YEAR-OLD PATIENT

Extremely complex laparoscopic intervention was performed at the Department of Digestive Surgery of Acibadem Sistina Hospital, when a large tumor of the body of the pancreas was removed in a 44-year-old patient. It is a highly specialized laparoscopic procedure, performed at the world top-ranking medical centers. It was performed for the first time in our country by Prof. Dr. Vladimir Dimov, proven abdominal surgeon and his team – Dr. Alen Jovchevski and Dr. Monika Simonovska.

The patient was diagnosed with a tumor of the body of the pancreas in size of about 6-7cm, spreading to the head of the pancreas. The intervention lasted for 3 hours, during which more than two-thirds of the pancreas was resected, and the spleen was removed. The entire intervention was performed by laparoscopy.
 
Such a surgical procedure, as Prof. Dr. Dimov says, means a very high level of laparoscopic surgery and according to the information, it was performed for the first time in the country. The patient is feeling well and after four days of hospitalization she is discharged to home treatment in a quite normal postoperative condition.
It is our great honour and pleasure that such a highly specialized laparoscopic procedure was performed for the first time at Acibadem Sistina Hospital. So far it has been performed only at the renowned world centers and we are pleased that it has become available to our patients. The intervention was performed by a proven and experienced medical team of Acibadem Sistina Hospital, led by Prof. Dr. Vladimir Dimov, one of the pioneers of laparoscopic abdominal surgery in our country and known in the Europe and beyond.
