NEW LABORATORY PACKAGE FOR COVID-PATIENTS WITH INTERLEUKIN 6 (IL6) MARKER IN “ACIBADEM SISTINA”

Acibadem Sistina Hospital has introduced a new laboratory package for Covid-positive patients. It is a package with several laboratory analyses, among which, the Interleukin 6 (IL6) concentration determination – a marker that indicates the possible occurrence of a cytokine storm in the patient that occurs as a result of corona virus infection.

This examination is of crucial importance, especially for patients who have already developed severe symptoms, i.e. their clinical condition has deteriorated. IL-6 is part of a large group of molecules called cytokines responsible for body’s immune system concentration response in case of infection.
According to Dr. Patricia Kalamaras, an infectologist, this package, which includes IL6 testing, is particularly important in Covid patient’s treatment in order to monitor their clinical condition and appropriate therapy to be administered.
