Robotic surgery at Acıbadem Sistina Hospital, as the only center for robotic surgery in the country, Kosovo and Albania, continues to be applied in complex kidney tumors.

For the first time in the country, the hospital's urology team successfully performed a robot-assisted nephrectomy (kidney removal) in a 59-year-old patient. The surgery was performed by Aleksandar Mickovski, Prof. Sotir Stavridis, MD, PhD and Vladimir Lozanovski, MD, urologists supported by the team of anesthesiologists, Emilija Mirchevska, MD аnd Robert Domazetov, MD, nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the surgical process.

The intervention was performed as per the planned course, and the patient, went home after a four-day stay at the hospital, in good health. She expressed her immense gratitude to the entire hospital team for the successful treatment and professionalism.

A great advantage for me and my family was the fact that here in Macedonia there is a hospital performing robotic surgery, which was the only solution for my complicated health condition. In a very short time after the surgery, I can already move and go home, and what is most important I will have a quality life, without pain", said Qamile Ljuboja, the patient.

In complex kidney tumors, the role of robot-assisted technology is of great importance since it allows the surgeon highly precise and controlled movements, improved visualization of the surgical field and access to the anatomical structures in a restricted space, which is of particular importance in complex urological interventions.

It is the first robot-assisted nephrectomy performed in our country, thus proving that we are pioneers in many urologic interventions. Such interventions require precise surgical work and maximum control in every surgery stage, and here the advantages of the robotic system come into play. We are proud that, thanks to the robotic technology, we give patients in the country and the region a chance for highly safe and precise surgery, meaning a quick recovery and a significantly reduced risk of complications for them", said Aleksandar Mickovski, MD, an urology specialist.
