“NERVE-SPARING” BEGAN TO BE PERFORMED AT ACIBADEM SISTINA HOSPITAL – AN INTERVENTION THAT SO FAR HAS BEEN PERFORMED ONLY AT THE MOST DEVELOPED CENTERS OF LAPAROSCOPIC UROLOGY

13.02.2023

“Nerve-sparing”, a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, is a safe and minimally invasive surgical treatment of prostate cancer, when the entire prostate is removed, but the nerve loops (small nerves that pass directly along the prostate) responsible for potency and continence are preserved.

Advantage of this type of surgery is the rapid establishment of complete control over urination, as well as erection preservation. Candidates for this type of treatment are patients who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at an early stage; it is clinically limited to the very prostate and there is a low risk of spreading the disease. The intervention was performed at the Department of Urology under the leadership of Dr. Zoran Krstanoski, Dr. Aleksandar Mickovski and Dr. Vladimir Lozanovski.
