Mr. Jordan Kamchev: To overcome the challenges in solidarity, to become stronger from this experience

30.12.2020

Many hopes for a better year, many wishes, and expectations as never before to be a better one than the previous. All of us are entering 2021 with a collective wish – this health challenge to come to its end. The pandemic has shifted our expectations, our priorities are different, all other wishes are of less value. 2020 has a bad omen, although it may have been successful for many. It is a success to preserve one’s health, to help someone, it is a good thing to make someone smile. There are many such people. In the days before and after the start of the New Year, “Factor” publishes New Year’s statements by medical experts, businessmen, bankers, politicians – all talking about their expectations for the next year.

Mr. Orce Kamchev is the chairman of the Board of Directors at Acibadem Sistina Hospital. During the past year, this hospital has proven to be a key chain in the domestic healthcare system.

Mr. Kamchev agrees that 2020 perhaps was one of the most challenging years we have ever lived in every aspect. He says that we easily manage things that are known and we have faced before, but now all of us are in front of a completely new and unknown situation where a rapid, proper and precise response is crucial and means a lot. And Acibadem Sistina Hospital selflessly invested and contributed a lot.

Mr. Kamchev says this year has made us modest in expectations. He wishes a gradual return to a normal lifestyle in the next year.

“As a businessman and owner of serious companies, I tried to react only in that manner. At the very beginning, we immediately prepared and met the needs of the citizens and the state. As early as March 22, we offered the facilities of Ibis Style Hotel and Ibis Skopje City Center, which were the first private facilities to open their doors as isolation centers. We provided them with comfortable conditions for stay at rooms equipped with television, internet, 24-hour medical care by trained staff, and medical protective equipment, setting aside a donation of almost 200,000 euros.

As for Acibadem Sistina Hospital, from the very beginning we completely adjusted the operation and introduced special protocols and safety standards during a pandemic, providing maximum protection to our patients and employees. Our institution, among the first, started population testing in order to help the state capacities and contribute to a rapid screening of the population. That tactic proved to be correct, and many other countries in the world have turned to it.

At a time of complete economic uncertainty, we opened a new pediatric hospital. Spread over an area of 4,000 square meters, it also includes a Pediatric Emergency Center, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery & Intensive Care Unit, Interventional Pediatric Cardiology, Day Hospital, Center for early detection and treatment of children with all forms of developmental delay. The Hospital engages 210 leading professionals.

We continued to invest in state-of-the-art equipment. This year we invested close to 10 million euros in the latest advances of diagnostic equipment.

This year we started a pioneering project in the country. Thanks to the cooperation between Acibadem Sistina Hospital and “Goce Delchev” University (UGD) of Shtip, 100 students in the 6th year of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at UGD of Shtip will complete the academic practice at our hospital. It means that 90% of future, potential doctors, currently students of this faculty, will get their internship at Acibadem Sistina Hospital.

In addition, we opened a Department of Infectious Diseases with a leading team of specialists in infectious diseases and other medical staff, where we offered advanced methods for taking care of virus-infected patients. The technology and equipment together with the practices applied only at Acibadem Sistina Hospital such as the ECMO or hemofiltration methods have contributed to a positive outcome and the highest number of successfully cured patients.

Acibadem Sistina Hospital has reaffirmed its position as the largest private medical provider in the region, employing over 1,100 employees, with a gross average salary of 1,500 euros, a supreme medical team and state-of-the-art equipment.

During this unpredictable year, no less challenging for me was to continue the successful operation of all companies that make up the Holding Group, to pay salaries timely to all employees and our top priority – none of our, more than 2,300 employees to lose their job.

At the end of the year, I can say that even in conditions of serious health and economic crisis, we managed to confirm the commitment to our employees, stability, success and professionalism that has distinguished “Orka Holding” for more than 30 years.

No less success is that this year too, as in the past 30, we showed that we are one of the largest employers and one of the companies making the greatest contribution to the overall economy through our payments based on various taxes and contributions. Orka Holding Group has 2363 employees, and based on taxes and contributions this year it will pay 12,850,000 million euros in the state budget. We paid a gross value of 28,400,000 million euros for the employees’ salaries this year. The gross paid average salary was 950 euros, which place us in the group of not only the largest, but also the most attractive employers on the market.

Consequences and effects of the Covid-19 crisis throughout the world will be felt in every field in the coming years. Even very powerful companies, part of strong economies, will overcome these effects for a long time. I am glad and proud that with such a big challenge still going on, we have so far managed to handle it really well and control the management process in such extremely difficult conditions.

In terms of goals for the next year, the focus and priority at Acibadem Sistina Hospital remain the same, providing premium patient care, following the latest medical practices and a lot of successful happy-ending stories. As for the companies, part of “Orka Holding”, the focus during the next year will be to maintain stability and ensure continuity in operations, and thus continuity in our main priority – taking care of the employees.

This year has shown us that only together with solidarity and empathic action we can overcome such challenges. I want to thank my employees, both doctors and all other employees who are part of the system for their sacrifice and perseverance. They are persistent and willing to offer maximum, unreservedly help and provide assistance wherever they could and whenever needed.

This year taught us to be modest in our wishes, so in the New Year, I wish we slowly begin to return to the good old reality, and what is left behind us to be just another great life experience that made us stronger, says Mr. Kamchev.
