Pulmonology and Allergology

The Department of Pulmoallergology applies the latest diagnosis and treatment methods  of lung diseases. The multidisciplinary approach enables successful treatment of the most complex lung diseases.

Allergy-Asthma

Allergic disorders are becoming increasingly common in our country. Allergic reactions include a wide range of signs and symptoms starting from sneezing to asthma. In addition to setting a prompt diagnosis of bronchial asthma its phenotypization is performed  as necessary for the adequacy of the therapeutic approach. Our clinic performs respiratory function tests, allergy skin tests, bronchodilator testing and bronchoprovocation testing. Such tests are necessary for the identification of the cause and severity of allergic diseases and for the further appropriate treatment decision.

  • Skin and blood testing for diagnostic purposes

Skin testing diagnostics involves the use of aeroallergens as a simple, quick and relatively safe method  to identify the cause of an allergy. In addition, we offer blood testing for allergies: RAST or ELISA lab testing methods. Even when the skin and blood tests are positive, the final diagnosis is set by the allergist.  Namely, a positive allergy test does not necessarily mean that the person is allergic. It can also indicate hypersensitivity.

  • Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a treatment that affects the reduction or disappearance of allergy symptoms for a certain period of time. Immunotherapy does not alter the defense system to other diseases. This therapy prevents developing bronchial asthma  from an allergic rhinitis.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

This respiratory disease usually occurs after many years of smoking and always goes in hand with other diseases. Our hospital provides an opportunity for early diagnosis of COPD and treatment by a multidisciplinary team made up of leading specialists in various fields. Following the identification, the patient is monitored for the mortality risk which  is considered in therapeutic decisions and the prognosis of the disease. We educate patients on changing their lifestyle and start rehabilitation at home. The Department of Pulmoallergology treats respiratory failure in worsening COPD and in the terminal phase of COPD with noninvasive ventilation.

Chronic cough

Chronic cough is any cough that lasts longer than 8 weeks in adults or 4 weeks in children. It is a condition that not only causes discomfort, but in some  cases completely disturbs the normal life by interrupting sleep and leading to exhaustion. The diagnosis is set by making an exhaustive history and getting familiar with previous diseases and habits. Subsequently, diagnostic tests are performed – pulmonary functional diagnostics including spirometry, measurement of the diffusing capacity or bodyplethysmography, X-ray of lungs or computed tomography, as well as bronchoscopy.
