DEPARTMENTS

Radiology

The Department of Radiology has the most advanced technology at its disposal enabling precise and timely diagnosis, as well as performing interventional procedures. Examination with the latest diagnostic devices is safe, with short imaging time and lower radiation dose. It is the only department in the country with 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging, heralding a new era in diagnostics. Making an appointment is fast, there are no waiting lists, and the results together with the expert report by a radiologist are obtained the same day.

DIGITAL CONVENTIONAL RADIOLOGICAL PROCEDURES

  • Diagnostic radiological procedures on organs and body systems (with/without contrast)
  •  Radiological procedures in infants and children (with/without contrast)
  •  Nonvascular interventional procedures

Diagnostic and interventional breast procedures

  • Breast ultrasound
  •  Digital mammography
  •  Magnetic Resonance Imaging, biopsy and preoperative marking of breast

Ultrasound procedures on organs and systems (diagnostic and interventional)

  • Urinary and digestive tract
  •  Soft tissues, muscles, joints
  •  Ultrasound of appendix

Computed tomography – Revolution Apex CT – 512 Slice

High-resolution scan quality, shorter scanning time, ultra-low radiation dose and smaller amount of contrast agent, an unique possibility to scan babies from the youngest age, precise scans even at very obese patients are some of the advantages offered by the new device for computed tomography, Revolution Apex CT. CT machine numerous advantages are due to the built-in unique TrueFidelity system that uses artificial intelligence to process the image with outstanding resolution at minimal doses of radiation. With this investment worth 1,600,000 euros, Acibadem Sistina Hospital is the only hospital in the region to own the Revolution Apex CT, the state of the art medical breakthrough in diagnostics from the world’s largest medical equipment manufacturer, GE Healthcare.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI 3 Tesla)

MRI 3 Tesla is the most sophisticated magnetic resonance imaging device, available for the first time in our country at “Acibadem Sistina”. The imaging time with MRI 3 Tesla is reduced by 30%, comparedto with MRI 1.5 Tesla. At the same time the double power of the magnetic field enables accurate presentation of the internal structures and organs, as well as detection of the changes invisible to MRI 1.5 Tesla. The improved patient comfort during the imaging process is made possible with the 70 cm wider cylinder. The comfort is complemented with a wider imaging table that carries load capacity up to 250 kg. A total body screening can be performed with this powerful device in less than an hour, without radiation and without a contrast agent.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI 1.5 Tesla)

The Magnetic resonance imaging device is one of the advanced medical technology achievements used for diagnostics of many changes in the human body by systems and organs (head, neck, spine and spinal cord, lungs, abdomen, biliopancreatic tree). MRI of organs and body systems is provided at our hospital, as well as functional MRI (diffusion, perfusion), myocardial perfusion scan, blood vessels, MRI of the fetus, MRI of the breast etc. As part of the magnetic resonance imaging, the latest anesthesia apparatus allows safe scanning to be performed to the most indisposed patients and patients with photophobias.

DSA (Digital Subtraction Angiography)

  • Diagnostic angiography procedures
  •  Phlebography
  •  Intravenous (i.v.) angiography
  •  Diagnostic peripheral vascular angiography, nephroangiography, aortography, angiography of cervical (carotid and vertebral) arteries, neuroangiography, cerebral pan-angiography, spinal angiography
  •  Interventional vascular procedures

Some of the vascular interventional procedures are used in treating peripheral vascular diseases. The narrowing of the arteries and veins is treated by balloon dilation. If dilation is insufficient at the site of constriction, a stent that expands the blood vessel is inserted. In case of vessel-clogging disorders caused by blood clot, thrombolytic therapy is provided; which, if performed in a timely fashion, helps avoiding permanent neurological consequences. Some cases require occlusion of blood vessels in order to prevent blood supply to the affected or damaged area. For this purpose embolization interventional procedures are performed. Vascular interventional procedures are also used in the treatment of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. In the last decade, these procedures are increasingly used for treatment of aneurysms or arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spinal cord blood vessels Some of these interventions substitute surgical treatment or serve to obtain preparation for higher quality surgery.

Nonvascular intervention procedures

Nonvascular interventional procedures available at our hospital are: balloon dilatation of esophageal stenosis, balloon dilatation of male urethral strictures and balloon dilatation of colon stenosis. The Department performs the following interventions:

  • Temporary or permanent esophageal stenting (palliative treatment)
  •  Dilation and stenting of male urethral stricture
  •  Percutaneous abscess drainage
  •  Pleural effusion
  •  Percutaneous biliary drainage
  •  Percutaneous drainage of urinoma
  •  Inserting percutaneous nephrostomy
  •  Computed tomography (CT) or Ultrasound (US) guided biopsies – Core biopsy (CB) and Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC)
  •  Percutaneous blockade of the nerves or nerve plexuses
