AFTER THE BREAST SURGERY I FELT CANCER-RELIEVED FIVE YEARS LATER I HAVE A HEALTHY AND HAPPY LIFE
Less than five years ago Biljana Georgievska (53) was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite the regular check-ups, she discovered a breast lump on her own, while the mammography finding and biopsy confirmed the worst – an invasive cancer. Following her friends’ recommendation, Biljana came for an examination with Dr. Karagjozov and since then, in her words, she finds the right solution to the serious health problem. Five years from that moment she enjoys every new day, grateful that life has offered her a new chance to live and rejoice with loved ones. Biljana has always taken care of her health and regularly performed gynecological examinations, ultrasound and breast mammography. The results were always excellent and she did not feel any symptoms that could indicate a disease. Until the day when she accidentally touched a lump in her right breast. Like everyone else who always find logical excuses not related to a disease, she thought that the lump occurred as a result of uncomfortable bra; she changed all her bras, but the lump remained and she was upset. Biljana immediately scheduled a mammography, and although it took several days to get a result, she was contacted to appoint an ultrasound examination with the doctor who saw the mammography results. “Considering the seriousness of the phone conversation, I already had a presentiment that it was a bad diagnosis, so I went to the examination with a friend, I did not have a strength to take my husband with me. The doctor told me it was a malignant breast disease and that I needed to see a doctor for performing surgery. The breast cancer diagnosis was a terrible shock to me. I did not want to go home, I was sitting on the bench, crying, not answering the phone. I did not want to believe that this was happening to me. You immediately think of the worst. I thought how I would tell the family, the children, the husband… ” Biljana recalled the most difficult minutes after the announced diagnosis.
MITKO KARADJOZOV GAVE ME STRONG HOPE AND FAITH
Although it took a while until she reached Dr. Karagjozov, from today’s perspective Biljana was very lucky that after talking to several doctors she and her family decided to visit his office. His approach was crucial for Biljana to change her perception of the disease and gather strength for life after cancer surgery.
“The doctor gave me so much hope that when I left the hospital I thought I was no longer sick. He accepted me so warmly, talked to us nicely, pointed out all the steps that will follow, prepared me for everything that awaits me before and after the treatment. There are many types of doctors but he is not just a doctor, he has a human dimension, a special communication and approach”, said Biljana.
FOLLOWING THE SURGERY, I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO WORK, I WITHSTOOD THE CHEMOTHERAPIES ON MY FEET
The surgery went well, after 3 days of hospital stay Biljana left and immediately went to work, without taking any sick leave. “I came out of Acibadem Sistina as if I was completely healed. That strong belief, thanks to Dr. Karagjozov, was crucial for me to become mentally strong and overcome the disease. So I decided to continue my normal life right away, to do the work that fulfils me, to communicate daily with many people, to do everything that makes me happy. I was so inspired with hope that I did not even take sick leave, I underwent surgery on Tuesday, I went home on Friday, and on Monday I went to work. I even took chemotherapy and then went to work. I had minimal side effects that occurred around the sixth day of therapy but with great support from my loved ones I managed to overcome them really easy. I was administered 4 cycles of chemotherapy and 30 cycles of radiation therapy”.
FAMILY SUPPORT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT
Throughout the period of struggle, uncertainty and fear you must have someone by your side, to constantly encourage and lift you up. I got it unreservedly in my family. They were always there for me, they made me eat, when they saw I was sad they took me for a walk, I just felt their love and commitment.
REGULAR FOLLOW-UPS, HEALTHY LIFE, MANY FRIENDSHIPS
Biljana radiates positive energy, she loves to travel and explore new places, and enjoys the walks with family and friends. Besides the negative moments, the disease she faced left lasting positive habits in her life and attitude. Previously she performed preventive examinations but now, after the surgery, they are compulsory. She performs ultrasound of abdomen, ultrasound of breast, blood test and gynecological examination every 6 months, and annually she performs mammography and test for tumor markers. All examinations are normal, and Biljana enjoys every new day, grateful that life has offered her a new chance to live and rejoice with her loved ones.
“It is not important only to perform an examination, but it matters where you perform it!” From today’s perspective, after getting acquainted with the conditions at “Acibadem Sistina” – the most modern diagnostic equipment and professionals such as Dr. Maja Chapova and Dr. Karagjozov, my message to all women is that it is not important only to have a check-up, but it is very important where you perform the preventive check-up. In addition to technology, experienced staff is necessary to see even the smallest change. The most difficult diagnosis could be won if it is in the best hands.
