A team of 7 doctors won the battle for my life

09.08.2017

I have felt dull backache for more than two years. Every time I went to the doctor, I had a treatment for sciatica. I was repeatedly suggesting to do magnetic resonance imaging, but they told me there was no way to justify the imaging. As the condition worsened during the course of last year, I became a regular visitor at the doctor’s. Walking became difficult and I lose all reflexes, finally becoming motionless.

“Acibadem Sistina” was my last chance

Motionless and in a wheelchair, I decided to go to “Acibadem Sistina” and consult with Kiril Lozanche, MD, PhD. The doctor immediately performed a MRI and diagnosed a tumor mass on the spine which was the cause of my paralysis. Within a few hours I was established with a diagnosis that I was waiting for for two years.  After the diagnosis, a biopsy was immediately performed by Zoran Trajkovski, MD, PhD. The pathology results appeared 10 days after the biopsy with a diagnosis of cancer follicular Thyroid gland metastasis,.

My treatment continued with Liliana Muratovska, MD, PhD, who diagnosed the cancer of the thyroid gland. In consultation with Slavica Kraleva, MD,  the next step was a surgery to remove the thyroid gland. I was immediately prepared and the next day I was operated  by Mitko Karagjozov, MD. As I was laying in the hospital, the results came, which only confirmed the initial diagnosis.

The spine tumor has been successfully removed

After the first surgery, another one followed by which the tumor of the spine was to be removed.  I was very frightened because of the risk of the surgery, there was a chance not to be able to walk ever again. But the team doctors who took care of me encouraged me with the prospect of a positive result, which eventually did happen. Jordan Saveski, MD, PhD, and Neda Trajkovska, MD, operated on me and successfully removed the tumor. The last step of my treatment was the iodine therapy, after which I was finally released from the hospital.

129 days later I stood on my feet

Every single day I was expecting a miracle to happen, so that I can stand on my feet. The days were passing but my legs remained motionless. On the nineteenth day I sprinkled some water on my feet and suddenly, one toe moved. I did not know whether it was true or just a fantasy. I asked my wife to pour more water on mu legs to confirm the result. I immediately phoned my son to tell him the good news as tachycardia followed excitement. I went to bed excited that night, looking forward to trying to move my toes again the next morning. In the morning I tried again but without success. I made several more attempts and still – no result. Finally there were results in the evening. A week later, the toes began to move.

After 129 days spent in a wheelchair, I could finally stand up on my feet. Now I feel great. My advice to everybody is to never lose hope, especially when professionals are committed to you.

What more could I say, for two years, the situation only worsened and was becoming more complicated with nobody knowing the exact diagnosis. Thanks to “Acibadem Sistina” and the team of seven doctors who took care of me, today I am writing this letter. The end result is impressive, I continued my walk through life, leaving the cancer behind.
